Ross and I have a similar satellite dish story, only worse (which I will refrain from sharing because the pain is still acute).

But KPI's--we've got to identify them, we've got to be open about them, and we've got to have a plan for resolving them.

The fact that someone may be disappointed and go to another church doesn't bother me nearly as much as the possibiity that someone walked into our doors needing God, through us, and wasn't able to find Him because of a KPI.

And, when we propose solutions to KPI's, we need to have a tolerance for initial failure. I read somewhere that if at least 10% of your initiatives don't work out well, then you aren't taking enough risks--you are playing it too safe. We need to be both bold and flexible in our approaches.

I'm with Dee, I'm willing to try and ASAP. I'm with Mary too. At a recent meeting I was reluctant to comment on ways to modify certain situations, but I finally thought, just say something. I prefaced to the group that I was "thinking aloud" and my thoughts might not be workable, but at least they would be out there and we could explore them, amend them, modify them, or "kill" them. The important thing is that we at the very least TRY and if one thing doesn't work, we
try, try again, until we find the "workable" solution. This is the strategy I have learned over the years that usually works. If Paul didn't persevere; if he quit after a "failure"; I shudder to think the ramifications of that. Let's don't miss out on the possible blessings of finding ways to encourage, nurture, lead, and love on current and future members/visitors of HBC. Thanks Al for providing the forum for discussion, Kelly Bauer.

We have to work on our KPI's, a gravel paking area, can we add some extra chairs? Maybe now is the time to look at our old plans or make new ones for a new building.

I'm in. All in. Here's something I see:
Pews = I can take up as much room as I want.
Chairs = My personal area is limited.

Maybe switching to chairs doesn't give us "more seats" by number but it defines your allotted area by leaps and bounds.

Oh, my first blog, and I am late finding out about it. Why not simulcast the service where adult Sunday School is in the main church is (where those getting dunked go after getting dunked). Put an area rug, link the video to a big screen and have coffee. Kind of close, but not too far away.
