I'm with you Rachel - absolutely agree and have faith that God is sufficient to provide abundantly, even as (and because) His people give sacrificially. So what do you propose? Christ said it's easier for the poor Macedonians to give the little they had than the rich man... There has to be something that motivates, inspires; a need that pushes one into action. Our cultural obstacles to giving sacrificially today are formidable: business, comfort, relative wealth. What the giving banner behind which the troops will rally?

There are so many good things out there to spport many of them at our church. Which ones are best? Perhaps the best course of action is to take it to the Lord and prayerfully consider the missions we have in place. What are the best ways to utilize the resources the Lord has provided to us? Do we continue the same old stuff.. which again, is good stuff, or do we seek out new ways to "glorify God with our wealth" (Proverbs 3:9a) Wealth here means your best labor, as well as income. So, to glorify God with your wealth is to give Him your best in everything you do. And also to give your "first fruits of your labor" (Proverbs 3:9b) I agree with you, Rachel, I have struggled with this also, but God is showing me how to give cheerfully and with 'first fruits'. I love the way He works in themes. God brought that Proverbs 3:9 scripture to my attention just a couple weeks ago in quiet time. And now, again He is showing me the importance of giving cheerfully and living abundantly too. Lving abundantly in the Lord is different from living abundantly in the world. Thanks for sharing! Food for thought.. and time for action!

Most Americans are so fortunate to have such luxuries as shelter, food and clothing. And most Americans are fortunate to have the ability to GIVE freely. We must all continue to Give freely and joyfully! One should not have "guilt" over ones success, but know that by freely sharing our riches we can help others!
2 Corinthians 9:7
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
